Snare Solo at the Loch Sloy Games
Snare Solo at the Monmouth Celtic Festival
About me:
The Pipe Band culture is a place where celtic music, dance, art, and athletics thrive, and challenges and
versatility can be easily found in all fields. Rudimental snare drumming has taken on a different angle for me, having grown up in the fife and drum
world, incorporating a delicacy, finesse, and complexity I never dreamed possible. Pipes also no longer simply mean parades or funerals to me.
They can be haunting, beautiful, amazing, or god-awful, depending on who plays them, and highland drumming now has more depth to me than simply
closed rolls and double snares. I hope you, too, have discovered this wonderful world, and if you haven't, will look into it. It is a musical and
cultural experience that shouldn't be missed by anyone!
For 7 years I played with the Feadán Or Pipe Band as the lead snare drummer and drumming instructor, and also played with the Oran Mor pipe band for a season, (until the 9 hour round-trip drive to practice became too much). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to participate on an active basis for the past few years, as MCV takes up so much of my time, but I was able to take some photos at the 2007 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow while I was playing at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo with MCV!
